🇸🇰 Rozhovor: Marek Herda po zvolení za viceprezidenta European IMMAF
Po historickom zvolení za viceprezidenta európskej vetvy International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) prinášame rozhovor s Marekom Herdom o zákulisí volieb, náročnosti reprezentačného projektu aj o vízii do budúcnosti.
Otázka:
Stali ste sa viceprezidentom European IMMAF. Čo pre vás tento moment znamená?
Marek Herda:
Je to obrovská česť. Ale zároveň aj veľká zodpovednosť. Voľba prebehla tajným hlasovaním demokratickým spôsobom a práve to jej dáva váhu. Znamená to, že európske federácie dôverujú našej práci a vízii. Vnímam to ako záväzok pracovať ešte intenzívnejšie pre rozvoj európskeho aj svetového MMA.
Otázka:
Celé obdobie pred voľbami však bolo mimoriadne náročné. Prečo?
Marek Herda:
Pretože sa to všetko dialo súčasne. Mali sme reprezentačný projekt, kde sme manažovali takmer 40-člennú výpravu – zápasníkov, trénerov, realizačný tím. Organizácia, logistika, komunikácia, koordinácia tímu… to je obrovský proces. Zároveň som bol súčasťou prípravy športovcov ako tréner, riešil som manažérske otázky, administratívu, komunikáciu s medzinárodnými štruktúrami, sociálne siete, mediálne výstupy, dokonca aj video obsah. A popritom prebiehala príprava na samotné voľby.
Otázka:
To znamená, že ste zastávali viacero rolí naraz?
Marek Herda:
Áno. V malých krajinách je to často tak, že ak chcete veci posunúť, musíte byť pripravený niesť viacero zodpovedností. Tréner, manažér, funkcionár, marketing, komunikácia… niekedy aj technická podpora. Ale beriem to ako súčasť budovania systému. Keď niečo chcete vybudovať, musíte tomu dať maximum.
Otázka:
Ako sa vám darilo skĺbiť vedenie reprezentácie a zároveň prípravu na medzinárodné voľby?
Marek Herda:
Nebolo to jednoduché. Vyžadovalo si to disciplínu, organizáciu času a silný tím okolo mňa. Najdôležitejšie však bolo, aby reprezentácia fungovala stabilne. Športovci museli cítiť istotu a podporu. Voľby boli dôležité, ale športovci a výkon na šampionáte mali prioritu.
Otázka:
Niektorí reprezentanti získali medaily, iní skončili vo štvrťfinále. Ako hodnotíte výsledok?
Marek Herda:
V kontexte európskej konkurencie je každá medaila obrovský úspech. Štvrťfinále na tejto úrovni často znamená jeden zápas od medaily. Vidím progres. Vidím, že Slovensko je konkurencieschopné. A čo je dôležité – máme systém, ktorý prináša výsledky.

Čo bude vašou prioritou ako viceprezidenta European IMMAF?
Marek Herda:
Stabilita, spolupráca a rozvoj mládeže. Európske MMA potrebuje jednotu a jasnú víziu. Chcem podporovať transparentné riadenie, silnejšiu komunikáciu medzi federáciami a systematickú prácu s mládežou. Budúcnosť športu je v mladých zápasníkoch.
Čo by ste odkázali slovenskej MMA komunite?
Marek Herda:
Že aj malá krajina môže mať veľký hlas. Ale za tým hlasom musí byť práca. Tichá, systematická, každodenná práca. A keď sa spojí športový výkon s organizačnou stabilitou, výsledky prídu – doma aj v Európe

Following his historic election as Vice President of the European branch of the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF), we bring you an in-depth interview with Marek Herda about the elections, the demanding period behind the scenes, and his vision for the future of European MMA.
Question:
You have been elected Vice President of European IMMAF. What does this moment mean to you?
Marek Herda:
It is a tremendous honor, but also a great responsibility. The election was conducted by secret ballot under democratic principles, which gives the result real legitimacy and weight. It means that European federations trust our work and our vision. I see it as a commitment to work even harder for the development of European and global MMA.
Question:
The period leading up to the elections was extremely demanding. Why?
Marek Herda:
Because everything was happening at the same time. We managed a national delegation of nearly 40 people – athletes, coaches, and staff members. Organization, logistics, communication, team coordination… it is a massive process. At the same time, I was involved in athlete preparation as a coach, handling managerial and administrative responsibilities, communicating with international structures, managing social media, producing media outputs, even editing video content. And alongside all of that, I was preparing for the elections.
Question:
So you were performing multiple roles simultaneously?
Marek Herda:
Yes. In smaller countries, if you want to move things forward, you have to be ready to take on multiple responsibilities. Coach, manager, official, marketing, communication… sometimes even technical support. But I see it as part of building a system. If you want to build something meaningful, you must give it everything you have.
Question:
How did you manage leading the national team while preparing for international elections?
Marek Herda:
It was not easy. It required discipline, time management, and a strong team around me. The most important thing was ensuring that the national team functioned with stability and confidence. The athletes needed to feel supported and secure. The elections were important, but the athletes and their performance at the championship had priority.
Question:
Some athletes won medals, while others finished in the quarterfinals. How do you evaluate the overall results?
Marek Herda:
Considering the level of European competition, every medal is a major success. Reaching the quarterfinals at this level often means being just one fight away from a medal. I see clear progress. Slovakia is competitive. Most importantly, we now have a system that consistently produces results.
Question:
What will be your priorities as Vice President of European IMMAF?
Marek Herda:
Stability, cooperation, and youth development. European MMA needs unity and a clear strategic vision. I want to support transparent governance, stronger communication between federations, and systematic work with young athletes. The future of the sport lies in the next generation.
Question:
What message would you like to send to the Slovak MMA community?
Marek Herda:
Even a small country can have a strong voice. But that voice must be backed by hard work. Quiet, systematic, everyday work. When sporting performance is combined with organizational stability, results will follow – both nationally and internationally.
